When I got the e-mail from Lee-Tai wrote to me, she wrote\u201d This note is also to let you know the sad news that my father Valery de Beausset has passed away at the age of 94 on October 18th. He was always grateful for the book you wrote about his work in Taiwan.\u201d I was shock to get this sad news fall into the remembrance of how I met Mr. de Beausset. In the document, I found Mr. de Beausset was the J.G. White Co. Taipei manager and play a very very important role in Taiwan. So, I try hard to find the contact way.<\/p>\n

At November 14th, 2001, I took Northwest airplane to Detroit to call on Mr. de Beausset. In the exit door, I saw the Mr. & Mrs. de Beausset and their daughter Lee-Tai took the \u201cde Beausset\u201d paper to welcome me. I was so surprise that he collected a lot of material about US Aid to Formosa and agree me to copy for my research. I need to copy too much. He said he can trust me and lend me the materials after used then mail back. After 2 minutes, he said you can bring them back to Taiwan. I gave the promise that I used those materials I will donate to the library for public research. Nov. 14, 2003, near the Thanksgiving Day, I went sightseeing to Detroit, too. I almost finished the writing and present 20 chapters to Mr. & Mrs. V.S. de Beausset and try to modify my manuscript. Here I try to say 3 things as bellow:<\/p>\n

First Four-Year Plan: Why not 5 or 6-Year Plan? In KTLi\u2019s page ( http:\/\/ktli.sinica.edu.tw\/ktli1.html),<\/a> it said KT Li compiled and revised first Four-Year Plan. But in Taiwan National Archive, I can\u2019t find any piece of material that showed KT Li do this job. Only one meeting memo \u201cConclusion reached in the meeting on \u2018Progress Review of FY1954 and FY1955 Industrial Program\u2019 held on 09\/17\/1954\u201d show he is the meeting chairman. So, who do this most important thing in this crux time?<\/p>\n

Remold Taipower: The J.G. White Engineering Corporation use The Development of Taiwan Power Co, assets re-evaluation, power rate adjustment, converse the accounting system. Pre-war, Taipower is a healthy and famous company, postwar it became unhealthy. After the remold Taipower, it change and even change the Taipower\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n

Found the Tunghai University: Mrs. V.S. de Beausset (Connie) was a member of Meeting of the Board of Directors of Tunghai University. Found the Tunghai University has 7 Committee, Connie in Buildings Committee, Equipment and Library Committee and Honorary Secretary. Vice President of US, Nixon went to Tunghai University to give a ground-breaking ceremony, was arrange by Mr. V.S. de Beausset. So, they play an important position in found the Tunghai University.<\/p>\n

\u00a0At the last paragraph, I try to write down how I feel about Mr. V.S. de Beausset about how he did the contribution in to Taiwan during 1949 to 1957. During that period, I was a child at the elementary school. My farther was put in jail due to political reason\u2014his young brother had a classmate (Chiang Ching Kuo) in Sun Yat-sen University at Moscow. My mother was a teacher of the Chaou-tung elementary school. Every time my family got the US aid\u2014flour and second-hand clothes from the Christian church, we might happy for several days. In 2003 July, the Taiwan Government paid my family 2520 thousands New Taiwan Currency to reverse a miscarriage of justice (never try in a law court) of my father. Chiang went to Taiwan in 1947, his classmate, my uncle, was died in \u201cLong March\u201d in 1938. \u00a0I would like to quote the song sang by Ms. Lulu, a very nice song and I love it very much, To Sir, With Love:<\/p>\n
